Color Abstracts
The first phase in making these images is the use of a slow shutter speed and intentional camera movement. Thereafter, image cropping, global and local color and tonal balancing, and selective sharpening are accomplished. Why not just make a an appealing in-camera composition, appropriate exposure, and snap the shutter? Sometimes the reason is the weather --- for example, too much wind for a sharply focused autumn landscape image. More often than not, my purpose is an attempt to evoke more of the feeling of the place, of the experience of brilliant color in a sun-washed garden, or changing moods of a serene sunset.
